Are you suffering from chronic bacterial vaginosis?  Then it's imperative that you seek proper treatment.  It's vital not just treating for giving relief from the devastating symptoms, because chronic conditions can pose some very real health risks that can affect you beyond what most of us consider the 'nuisance' symptoms of this condition. Once bacterial vaginosis has become chronic, women run the risk of developing Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), if it gets time it needs to work its way through the vagina and the cervix and into the uterus.

PID needs to be treated as soon as possible. If not it can lead to serious fertility problems and total fertility in worst case. The reason many of these conditions are not treated in a timely manner is often because women mistake the symptoms as just a continuation of their vaginosis. If you suffer from chronic bacterial vaginosis, your risk of getting PID is significantly higher than normal because it's much easier for the bad bacteria to find their way to the uterus.

If you're suffering from it while pregnant, it can also lead to problems and complications such as early labor as well as a low birth weight for your baby. Therefore, women are offered a test for bacterial vaginosis in early pregnancy to avoid any possible complications. If you know that you have this chronic vaginal disorder before you become pregnant, make sure that you inform your OB/GYN so that they can you check you throughout your pregnancy to make sure that you stay bacterial vaginosis-free as much as possible.

Of course, one of the problems with this condition is not identifying it, but rather trying to treat it, and get rid of the bacterial vaginosis for good. It's well known that women in many cases have been classified as having 'chronic' bacterial vaginosis whilst what they really had was bacterial vaginosis that had not responded to the treatments that they had been trying. What is hard to figure out is if it is because of true chronic bacterial vaginosis, or simply because of treatments that are not effective.

A majority of women who suffer from this condition have been trying to treat it with traditional medicines such as antibiotics.  The problem, however, is that antibiotics have been proven to not address the root causes of bacterial vaginosis, which causes the symptoms to return again and again. This is what leads to the diagnosis of the condition. So, in order to offer women genuine relief from chronic bacterial vaginosis, they need to look for alternative methods of treatment that will get them lasting relief.
